Dadra and Nagar Haveli are landlocked between Maharashtra (south) and Gujarat (north). The union territory consists of two separate parts, Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Lying close to the Western coast of India, it is enclosed by the Valsad District of Gujarat (on west, north and east) and by Thana District of Maharashtra (south and south-east). The southern area is mostly hilly and is encircled by Sahyadri Mountains. The central region is alluvial plain with rich fertile soil. The Daman Ganga River flows through the state and enjoins Arabian Sea at the Daman port. It has three tributaries, namely, Pipri, Sakartond and Varna.
