    Chapramari - Tourists to Jhallong can visit the Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary located near Gorumara Wildlife Sanctuary. The forest is situated near National Highway 31, which connects the north-east with the rest of India. After crossing the Teesta River travellers need to go towards Dooars to reach this forest. The Chapramari forest is inclusive of a large variety of fauna and flora. It is home to the ‘gaur’ or Indian bison, reptiles, Royal Bengal tiger, deer and elephant as well as several species of birds.

     

    Jhalong Bird Sanctuary - The Jhallong Bird Sanctuary is the home to a variety of hill and migratory birds like Eurasian wryneck, brown dipper, slaty-backed forktail, Rufous-necked laughing thrush, crested kingfisher, Hodgson’s redstart, little forktail and some other rare species.

     

    Excursions in Jhalong - Places like Gorumara Wildlife Sanctuary and Chilpata are close by; tourists can have a memorable jungle safari in either of these places. Totopara is a small village that is the only habitation of the Totos, the aboriginal tribes. Tourists who wish to have an anthropological excursion can visit the village. Jalpaiguri, Dooars, Siliguri are other places in close vicinity. Jhalong is located near the famous tourist destination Kalimpong as well.

     

    Totopara - The small village of Totopara is situated on a hillock, at a distance of 22 km from Madarihat, the entry point of the Jaldapara National Park. The Torsa River is situated to its east, the foothills of Bhutan is situated on the north and the Titi Reserve Forest and the Titi River on the south-west. It is the residence of the unique Toto tribes, the aboriginal tribes of the region. Tourists can also visit the village of Ballalguri that is situated to the south of Totopara, at a distance of around five kilometres.

    Gorumara Wildlife Sanctuary - The Gorumara Wildlife Sanctuary is situated on the banks of River Murti. Various species of flora and fauna are found in this sanctuary. A watchtower is situated next to the Forest Rest House and provides a beautiful view of Murti Valley and of the entire sanctuary. Since a salt reservoir is situated below the tower, it is considered to be the best place for observing wild animals such as elephant, deer, rhino and bison. A special permission is required to gain entry into the core area of the sanctuary.

     

    Activities at Jhalong - The activities in Jhalong include bird watching and minor trekking to Todey and Tangta. Angling can be done in Jaldhaka. Village tours and cultural shows are the other activities and entertainments that can be associated with Jhalong.
