    City Centre - The City Centre is the heart of the city and is very well connected with the rest of the city by public transport. In fact, with the growth of many cineplex, shopping malls and restaurants, the area has become one of the most popular amongst youngsters.     Deul Park - Deul Park is located close to the city of Durgapur and is a very popular to spend a leisure time. It is located on the banks of the River Ajoy and comprises many water rides. A visit to the 800 years old Ichai Temple is the highlight of visiting this place. Tourists can enjoy great dining experience here. Also, boating facilities are available in the lake and so is ideal for a picnic too.

     

    Durgapur Barrage - At the Durgapur Barrage, watching nature’s fury and man’s attempt to control it can be interesting. Tourists can take a look at the water flowing out of the lock gates. There is also a canal located a few yards from the main barrage. People can also cross the small footbridge and experience nature at its best. The best time to visit the barrage is during the monsoon. For bird-watchers, early hours of a day are the best, when there is a great gathering of various colorful birds.

     

    Asansol - Asansol is situated around 42 km from Durgapur and is considered the second biggest city in the state of West Bengal, after Kolkata. It is a city, both ethnically and culturally diverse and there are many places in and around the city to tour. Tourists can travel to Asansol, both by roadways and railways from Durgapur.

     

    Kumaramangalam Park - Often considered as one of the most beautiful parks in Durgapur, the Kumaramangalam Park is the first park in the district to have a musical fountain. But, the park suffered a period of negligence and the result was the destruction of some of the infrastructures later, it was Durgapur Steel Plant that started overseeing its maintenance and retained its old charm. Tourists can also enjoy boating facilities here.

     

    National Institute of Technology - The National Institute of Technology in Durgapur was set up under the Act of Parliament in 1960 under the name of Regional Engineering College. Durgapur as one of the eight main colleges established to develop engineering education in the country. A visit to Durgapur would be incomplete without a trip to NIT.

     

    Rahreswar Shibtola - According to Archaeological Survey of India, Rahreswar Shibtola temple is around 800 years old and is built according to the style of the Rathas of South India. A few steps outside will take the tourists to the remnants of the British airforce airport.

     

    Benachity - Benachity is the oldest commercial area of Durgapur. It is around 3 km in length and has shops on both sides of the road. This place has the branches of all the banks. Besides, tourists will find shops of all national and multinational brands in Benachity. The place is well connected by buses, as most of the buses plying in Durgapur pass this place. The only problem with this place is the difficulty of vehicle parking as most part of the area remains congested.

     

    Garh Jungle - It is also known as the Dharma Garh of Raja Surath and is located towards the eastern end of Durgapur. It is believed to be one of the oldest places of the country. In fact, it is the same place where Raja Surath performed Durga Puja after being instructed by Mahamuni Medhas. According to the Bhagbats and Puranas, this is the place of Satya Yuga. When Raja Surath was defeated by the Bhils and the Kols, he was blessed by Medhas Mahamuni whose ashram was located here. But, in the modern days, it was Jogiraj Brahmananda Giri of the Dasnami cult, who revived the place and once again started the Durga Puja at the temple of Raja Surath. During the time of the Durga Puja, thousands of devotees visit from nearby areas.

     

    Bhabani Pathak's Tilla - This place was popularised by the great writer, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in his novels, ‘Devi Chaudhurani’ and ‘Durgesh Nandini’. It is believed that some great networks of tunnels were built, starting from the City Centre area and ending at the Damodar River. According to legends, without a map of the underground tunnel system, it is really difficult to navigate the tunnel. The entrance of the cave has been declares ‘protected, and tourists are prevented from entering the tunnel.

     

    Troika Park - Troika Park is a very popular place for kids, located near City Centre with many rides like toy-trains and other attractions. It is located very close to the deer park, where tourists can take a trip to spot deer. There is a lake for boating and the park is also ideal for picnics.

    Jaydev Kenduli - Jaydev Kenduli is a village located in the Ilambazar Community Development block in Bolpur around 22 km from Durgapur. For a long period, this place has been considered the birthplace of the famous poet Jayadeva, the composer of Gita Govinda. The place has been developed as a religious centre with many ashramas and temples. A Baul fair is organised every year on the occasion of Makar Sankranti in Jaydev Kenduli. The place has temples with beautiful carvings, among which the most popular one is the Navaratna temple named Radha Vinod Temple. This temple was built by the royal family of Burdwan. The Radha Vinod Temple has terracotta panels on its walls.
