    Nandankanan Zoological Park - Established in the year 1960, the Nandankanan Zoological Park covers a total area of 400 hectares, with a botanical garden as another integral part. It was in the year 1979 that the park was opened for public display and by the year 2009, the zoo gained association with World Association of Zoos and Aquariums, becoming the first zoo in India to do so. Nandankanan is popular for its white tiger population and it has over 34 white tigers. This zoo is home to approximately 1660 animals with 67 species of mammals, 81 species of birds and 18 species of reptiles. The zoo enjoys a good reputation internationally for successfully breeding black panthers, gharials and white tigers, in captivity. Several endangered species including the Asiatic lion, three Indian crocodile species, sangai liontailed macaque, Nilgiri langur, Indian pangolin and mouse deer have been bred in Nandankanan.
