    Cuttack Chandi Temple - The temple of Cuttack Chandi is one of the most sacred temples in Orissa and is a pilgrimage site for Hindus. The temple is located by the banks of the River Mahanadi and is a dedicated shrine of Goddess Chandi who is the incarnation of Goddess Durga. The interior of the temple is exquisitely designed and the gateway of the temple is known for its architectural brilliance. The deity of Goddess Chandi inside the temple has Pasa, Ankusha, Abhaya and Bara as the four hands. The Durga Puja and Kali Puja are celebrated with much fanfare.

     

    Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary - The Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the most popular wildlife sanctuaries in Orissa which is located near the city of Cuttack. This is a massive area of 650 km which is home to a variety of flora and fauna. A range of reptiles and mammals are found in here and the place is known for being home to the estuarine crocodiles and the rare Olive Ridley Sea Turtles which attract wildlife enthusiasts. The sanctuary is known for its vast wetland and the thick mangrove forest. The lush forestation is the natural habitat for a variety of exotic and migratory birds. The sanctuary welcomes a horde of nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.

     

    Barabati Fort - Located at around 8 km from the main city centre, Barabati Fort is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Cuttack. It is located to the west of the city and is on the banks of the Mahanadi River. The ruins of the palace which was once an impressive nine storied structure, lies by the river bank along with the moat and the ruins of a Ganga temple. It is spread over an area of 102 acres. The moat is called Gadakhai and is quite popular among tourists along with the earthen mould and the gateway is at its best architectural beauty. It stands as witness to the grandeur of the Ganga dynasty which is an important part of the Oriya history. The fort is a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India and several excavations have taken place here.

     

    Bhattarika Temple - The Bhattarika Temple is another famous Hindu pilgrimage destination in Cuttack. Dedicated to the Goddess Maa Bhattarika, who is believed to be an incarnation of Shakti, the temple is located right on the banks of the River Mahanadi. Legend has it that the temple stands at the very spot where Goddess Durga bestowed her power on Parasuram while he prayed to the Goddess, as he was faced with defeat in front of Saharasjuna. Thousands of Hindu devotees visit on pilgrimage to offer their prayers.

     

    Qadam-I-Rasool - The Quadam-i-Rasool is unique in the fact, that it is an important destination for both Hindus and Muslims. It is a sacred shrine and is considered a place of worship by both the communities which speak about the religious harmony of the place. The place has three mosques, aesthetically designed domes and an exquisite music gallery called the Nawabat Khana. The mosques are designed with a perfect blend of Hindu and Muslim styles of architecture. The place is spread over an area of 57 acres. There are high compound walls surrounding the area and each corner has a tower. It is believed that there is a stone in the middle of the mosque which contains an impression of Prophet’s footprint.
