    Konark Temple - The temple of Konark is situated near the Chandrabhaga Beach and lies at 64 km from Bhubaneswar and 31 km from the city of Puri. This temple is regarded as one of the Orissa’s most renowned and rich temples in regard to architecture and heritage due to which it is also a World Heritage Site. It was built in the 13th century and it derives its name from Konarka, who was the deity of this Sun Temple. The Konark Temple popularly known as the ‘Sun Temple’ is built in the shape of a chariot being pulled by seven horses to carry the Sun God. This exquisite design of the Konark Temple took 12 years for it to be built. Presently, the temple does not have its old state and has only some ruins left consisting of wheels, smaller temples and a dance hall. This dance hall is its main attraction which comprises images from daily lives along with several memoirs of state affairs and women on Odissi dancing poses.

     

    Chandrabhaga River - The Chandrabhaga Beach is one of the holy sightseeing places of Puri situated along the Chandrabhaga beach. It lies at 3 km east of the famous Konark Temple. The popularity of this river is associated with a legend where lord Krishna’s son, Shamba was a cured leper worshipped the Sun God on the mouth of this river, for the cure. After he finished his worship, the river dried. Due to this the river has a religious significance and many devotees come from all over the world to take a dip in its holy water.
