    Periyar Lake - Located near  the Periyar national reserve and park is the lake of Periyar, which is suitable for boating for the travellers. It takes around 2 hours for travellers to explore the region on a boat. Views of elephants bathing on the lakeside are very common here.

    Ramakalmedu - Located 16 km from Nedumkandom is the silent town of Ramakalmedu. Located alongside the Thekkady-Munnar road, Ramakalmedu lies in the mountain region on the border of Tamil Nadu. Other attractions located near to the region of Ramakalmedu include Turtle rock, Frog rock and twin statue by the name of Kuravan and Kurathi.  

     

    Kumily - Kumily is a small town located near Thekkady and Periyar in the Cardamom Hills, in the district of Idukki in Kerala. Other than being a major tourist destination, it is also a major spice-trading centre. Kumily is a town that remains busy throughout the year as devotees come here from the months of October to January and tourist come here from the months of February to September because of the pleasant climate. Smalls are provided here in the spice plantation for the travellers who come here.  

     

    Periyar Tiger trail - The Periyar Tiger Trail is located within the lush forests and is popular for its adventure safaris. Some of the wild animals found here include giant squirrel, nilgiri langur, monkeys and elephants. Travellers come here to enjoy sports like trekking, hiking and camping that are provided by the authorities over here. The temple dedicated to Lord Murugan is located on the hilly region by the name of Murugamala.

     

    Vandiperiyar - The large town of Vandiperiyar is located 18 km from the Thekkady, on the banks of River Periyar. There are few tea factories and Government agricultural farms located here, which makes it one of the major agricultural hubs of Kerala. Rivers in the town makes activities like boating and fishing possible.

     

    Chellarkovil - The small village of Chellarkovil is popular for its waterfalls, green plains and Cumbum coconut grooves.

     

    Murikkady - Murikkady is a picnic spot that is located in proximity to the Periyar Tiger Reserve, which is about 5 km from Thekkady. Murikkady is popular for its rich and varied plantations of pepper, coffee and cardamom spice plantations.

     

    Vandanmedu - Vandanmedu is popularly known as the world’s largest cardamom auction centre because of its several plantations that are scattered all over the region. Vandanmedu is a very peaceful location where guided tours to these plantations are available. 

     

    Mangladevi Temple - Located on top of a wooden hill is the Mangla Devi Temple, which is about 15 km from the region of Thekkady. This temple is popular among the locals and travellers for its ancient Pandian type architecture. The location of this temple is unique, is located at an altitude of 1337 m on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu boundary.  This temple is one of the oldest temples of the region as it is said to be 2000 years old dedicated to Kannagi or Mangladevi. Prayers in this temple are conducted only once in a year on a full moon day in between the month of April and May.

     

    Pandikuzhi - 10 km from the region of Idukki that is near to the Tamil Nadu state border lies the small town of Pandikuzhi. The region is covered by wild brooks and with greenery, which is popular for picnicking and trekking.  

     

    Pullumedu - Located at a distance of 43 km from Thekkady and 26 km from Periyar is Pullumedu. Pullumedu is popular for its gardens, wildlife and different varieties of flowers found here. Views of Shri Ayappa Temple and the Makara Jyothi are visible from this place. Travellers or visitors require special permission from the Wildlife Preservation Officer for entering in this area and travelling is only by Jeep.
