    Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary - The Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, also known as the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, was established in 1973. This wildlife sanctuary is situated around 24 km away from Sulthan-Battery. The Nagarhole and Bandipur national parks of Karnataka lie to the north-east of this sanctuary; while the Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary is situated to its south-east. Being an integral part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, this sanctuary is entirely covered with moist deciduous and evergreen rain forests. It sprawls over an area of around 344.44 sq. km in the Western Ghats and is home to Asiatic elephants and tigers. The sanctuary shelties home to monkeys, jungle cats, panthers, civets and wild dogs. The Indian bison, deer and bear also inhabit the sanctuary. Numerous species of reptiles like monitor lizards and several kinds of snakes can commonly be spotted in the sanctuary. Peacocks, cuckoos, babblers, owls, wood peckers and jungle fowl are the different types of birds living within the sanctuary. The sanctuary is also popular among bird and butterfly watchers. The months of June through October are considered an ideal time to visit, as it falls in the migratory season of several Trans country birds that come here during the season.

     

    Kalpetta - Kalpetta is counted amongst the prominent pilgrimage centres of Wayanad District. This pilgrimage centre is situated around 24 km away from the destination. The town has a number of temples, waterfalls, peaks, valleys and sanctuaries. The prominent attraction of the town is the Sree Maha Vishnu Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The Mariamman Devi Temple, Grammam Devi Temple and Ayyappa Swamy Temple are some of the ancient shrines located in the town. The Koottamundu Glass Temple, dedicated to Parshawanatha Swami, is one of the renowned temples of the area. Another important attraction of religious importance is the Varambetta Mosque, built around 300 years ago.The town is famous for various other attractions, such as the Meenmutty Falls, Kanthanpara Waterfalls and Karapuzha Dam. At an altitude of 2100 m above sea level, the Chembra Peak is considered amongst the tallest peaks of the Wayanad region. Other points of interest are the Pakshipathalam Bird Sanctuary, Sunrise Valley, Chain Tree and Karalad Lake. One can learn about the tribal life and culture at Meppadi, Thinapuram, Meenangadi and Uravu.

     

    Chethalayam Falls - Chethalayam Falls, renowned as one of the smallest waterfalls in Wayanad, is located 12 km from Sulthan-Battery. The region around the falls is dotted with black granite rocks. The falls is also considered as one of the prominent base camps for trekking routes starting from the destination and ending at the mountains of the Western Ghats.

     

    Jain Temple - The Jain Temple, located on the Bangalore-Calicut Highway, is believed to have been constructed around the 13th century. During the reign of Tipu Sultan, the temple was used as an ammunition store or battery for various operations of his army. The walls and interiors of this shrine are adorned with the intricate stone carvings made in the one of the traditional styles of Keralite architecture. The temple is dedicated to Ananthanatha Swami, a famous saint.

     

    Regional Agricultural Research Station - The Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS) lies in Ambalavayal Town. The research centre is a part of the Kerala Agricultural University and conducts research on spices, paddy, vegetables and fruits of tropical and sub-tropical varieties. The building of RARS has a nursery with a large collection of rare roses and ornamental plants.

     

    Thovarimala Ezhuthupara - Thovarimala Ezhuthupara is a remotely located cave that lies around 5 km away from Sulthan-Battery. This cave is situated at an average elevation of 500 m. The cave is considered as a rare historic treasure that represents the human habitation in the region in the ancient period. The cave has various pictorial writings that belong to the pre-historic Stone Age, dating back to around 8000 BC. The stone carvings on the upper side of the cave represent circular and square figures. This naturally formed cave also has a few Neolithic pictorial writings on its interior walls.

     

    Gurpur River - Gurpur River, rising from the Western Ghats and flowing into Karnataka, is one of the prominent water bodies of the region. The Mangalore City is located at the confluence of the Gurpur River and Netravati River. Tipu Sultan, a ruler from Mysore, constructed Sultan-Battery on its banks, to safeguard his kingdom from enemies.     Ambalavayal Heritage Museum - Ambalavayal Heritage Museum, also known as the Wayanad Heritage Museum, is located in Ambalavayal Town, around 11 km from Sulthan-Battery. Collections of rare artefacts that date back to the 2nd century Ad are exhibited in this museum. It is segregated into four blocks, namely the Gothrasmruthi, Devasmruthi, Jeevanasmruthi and Veerasmruthi. The Veerasmruthi Block showcases relics of primitive wars and tiger hunts that showcase the life of the primitive man. Gothrasmruthi, the second block, showcases various interesting artefacts like the fish collecting bags, cow bells and ploughs that reflect the lifestyles of the tribal communities of Wayanad. Various artefacts belonging to the the Neolithic Age and the 17th century are displayed at the Devasmruthi Block. This block also holds display of around 20 idols that are made of stones and belong to the period between the 12th century and the 16th century.

     

    St. Thomas Orthodox Church - St. Thomas Orthodox Church lies in Malankarakkunnu, situated near Sulthan-Battery. Originally, the church was managed by Bishop Paulose Mar Sevariose of Cochin and Malabar Diocese. Presently, it is under the management of the Sulthan-Battery Diocese.
