    Kaviyoor Mahadeva temple - Kaviyoor Mahadeva Temple is located at Kaviyoor in Pathanamthitta District. Popularly known as Thrikkaviyoor Mahadeva Temple, this shrine is dedicated to Mahadeva-Lord Shiva with Parvathi. Kaviyoor Mahadeva Temple, placed on a small hillock, is one among the most important Siva Temples in Kerala. The temple is very ancient and is known for its unique architectural style. The Kaviyoor Mahadeva Temple is also called as Hanuman Temple. It is believed that the idol here was installed by Lord Rama in the presence of Sita, Lakshman, Hanuman, Sugreeva and Vibheeshana, while returning to Ayodhya after fourteen years of exile. As is the case of the temples in Kerala, the Kaviyoor Mahadeva Temple also follows strict dress codes and other rituals. Non-Hindus cannot enter beyond the outer wall of the temple. Photography is also prohibited. The festival held in December/January of every year and Hanuman Jayanthi, are the main festivals celebrated here. Sabarimala Sri Dharmasastha Temple, Bhagavathy Temple, Aranmula Parthasarathy Temple, Valiyakoikal Temple, Sree Vallabha Temple and Kadamanitta Devi Temple are some other temples located nearby.

     

    Muloor Smarakam - Muloor Smarakam is a memorial located at Elavumthitta, a small village near Pathanamthitta. Placed at a distance of 12 km from the Pathanamthitta town, this memorial is dedicated to the memory of Muloor S. Padmanabha Panicker (1869-1931) - a poet and social reformer of the pre-independence era. The Muloor Smarakam was originally the home of Padmanabha Panicker. It was later converted into a memorial with the initiative of Department of Culture of the Kerala State Government. A typical ordinary Kerala house, the Muloor Smarakam is visited by numerous people from all parts of the world. Historians are attracted to the Muloor Smarakam due to the historical importance of it, literary enthusiasts and writers because it is the memorial of a poet, and the tourists, due to the sheer natural beauty of the surroundings.

     

    Paliakara Church - One of the major religious destinations for Syrian Christians, Paliakkara church is situated in Tiruvalla in Pathanamthitta district. Other than being an important church, this place is also known for its unique architecture and history dating back to the arrival of St Thomas in A.D 54. The facade of the church has carved latticed walls and figures of various saints sculpted into it. Another attraction is the ancient murals on the eastern wall which have been painted using natural vegetable dyes. The murals depict the major events in the life of Jesus Christ. Also present is a painting of St. George, the patron saint of this church. Another painting shows the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ. Many aspects of the church have blending Hindu elements. On either side of the big wooden girders supporting the roof, one can see small figures of tigers and elephants. The feast of St. George, celebrated here for 10 days in mid-April to mid-May, is similar to that of the 10 day festival celebrated at the nearby Sri Vallabha Temple.

     

    Manjinikkara Church - Manjinikkara Church is situated on top of a hillock in Manjanikkara, near Omallur, 6 km from Pathanamthitta. Established by Mor Yulius Elias Qoro, this church is a popular pilgrimage center for Syrian Christians. The significance of the church is attributed to the presence of the holy tomb of Patriarch Mar Ignatius Elias III who visited this place in 1931 and continued to live here till his death in February 1932. The church has a beautiful altar with images of the saint and Lord Jesus. The holy tomb of Patriarch Mar Ignatius Elias III is also found near the altar. An annual festival called Orma perunnal or feast of the saint is organized at the church every year in the month of February. During this festival, the archbishops from other churches are invited to address the devotees. Huge numbers of devotees visit the church during the festival to take part in special prayers and visit the tomb for spiritual healing.
