    Erumeli - Erumeli is a small village located around 15 km from Kanjirappally. According to mythology, Lord Ayyappan followed the path from Erumeli to Sabarimala. The Erumeli Mosque and the Erumeli Sastha temple are the two famous shrines located in Erumeli. A few other shrines located in Pampa, Kalaketti, Karimala and Inchipparakota can also be visited on the way to Sabraimala from Erumeli. The Nainar Mosque, located at Erumeli is an old shrine dedicated to a Muslim saint Vavar, also known as Vavaraswami. The mosque was rebuilt in 1979 with a water tank carved out of a single piece of rock. Stone steps with ancient inscriptions and a few pillars are the prime attractions of the building. The place is visited during the Makara Vilakku season. The Erumely Sree Dharma Sastha Temple is the starting point for pilgrims going to Sabarimala. Here, pilgrims pay homage to Vavar at the shrine and a traditional ritual named Petta Thullal is performed. The presiding deity of the shrine is Sasthavu and the sub-deity is Bhagavathy.

     

    St Dominic's Cathedral - St Dominic's Cathedral, built in 1826, is one of the famous churches situated on the banks of the Chittar River. The church is known for its beautiful architecture and belongs to the category of Forane Churches. It was reconstructed in 1945 and in 1977 it became a cathedral. The church celebrated its 150th anniversary in 1977. Xavier Koodapuzha is the present vicar of the cathedral.

     

    Pazhayapalli St Mary's Old Church - Pazhayapalli St Mary's Old Church, one of the oldest churches in India, has been named after Mother Mary. The church was constructed in 1449 in Kanjirappally using wood and stone. It is believed to have been renovated three to four times, but the main altar remains the same since its inception. This old church is built on the land donated by Sri Veerakerala Perumal, the erstwhile King of Thekkemcore and nephew of Cheraman Perumal.

     

    Ganapathiyar Kovil - Ganapathiyar Kovil is a 900 year old structure, which was constructed by the Chetti community of Tamil Nadu. Currently in ruins, the granite pillars of the structure have carvings and inscriptions in Tamil language. The inscriptions represent the story of the Pattunool Shetties community. The community still exists in the region and is known for Kanjirapally Katcha, meaning weaving on textiles.

     

    Ponkunnam - Ponkunnam is a small village, located 6 km away from Kanjirappally. It is the hometown of late Ponkunnam Varkey, Malayalam poet and writer. Temples of Chirakadavu Mahadevar and Ponkunnam Puthiyakavil Devi are the nearby places of worship.
