About hundred shrines of Lord Shiva, like the three shrines of Panch Kedar out of the total of five and three of Panch Badri out of the total five are situated here. The entire valley of Chamoli takes on a floral look during the monsoon season and makes this place a “Valley of flowers”.The small hilly district of Chamoli is known for its historical, cultural, geographical and mostly religious importance. Nestled in the Himalayan range, Chamoli is ideal place for nature lovers and is known to have been inspiration to poet like Kalidas. The snow-clad mountains, the rivers and various pilgrimages make this place suitable for pilgrims, nature lovers and adventurists. Chamoli’s district headquarters is Gopeshwar located at an elevation of 1308 m.

Gaumukh - Gaumukh or Gomukh derived its name from the fact that the end of the Gangotri Glacier resembled the mouth of a cow.
